Robyn Vella was born in 1992, and delved into the world of theatre in 2012, upon joining Teatru Manoel Youth Theatre (TMYT). She performed in TMYT productions such as: CLUB (2013) which premiered at the ŻiguŻajg International Children’s Festival and later also at The Tin Forest Festival in Glasgow; Qatt Ma Ninsa (2014), in collaboration with Valletta 2018; and The Three Sunsets (2014), also launched at ŻiguŻajg.
She joined the theatre company Du' Theatre in 2013 as an intern and became an official member in 2014. In 2015 she also joined Studio 18 's programme Creative Lab and performed in Il-Hajja Xejn Cool ta’ Teenager Jismu Julian (2016), in collaboration with Teatru Aurora in Gozo. In 2016, she performed in Limbo, which was also a Studio 18 production. This was performed four times, twice at Spazju Kreattiv, once at the Sliema Arts Festival, and another at the University of Malta.
Besides performing, Robyn was also the Production Manager for Studio 18’s performance Dear Pete (2017) and was Deputy Stage Manager, the second time it was performed. She has since moved on from being a participant in Studio 18 programmes, and is currently in charge of the social media of the organisation.
Being intrigued by the whole process of putting up a production, she has also worked backstage, operated lights and sound, worked as production manager, and stage manager to various performances. In 2018, she was Stage Manager to The New Victorian’s performance of MARA, which was performed at the Valletta Campus Theatre, and again later in Scotland during The Exchange Festival. She sometimes works at The Valletta Campus Theatre and operates the lights when needed.
Between 2016 and 2018, Robyn also formed part of The Box Project, in collaboration with Valletta 2018 and Studio 18. The Box Project was a concept that delved into devising and was offered to different schools across the island. Robyn ran the workshops (along with other workshop leaders), for two years.
Robyn is currently in her final year at the University of Malta, reading for a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre.
