Magdalena Van Kuilenburg, born in 1983, has trained in acting and the performing arts for 8 years at the Malta Drama Centre and holds a B.A. (Hons) in Theatre Studies from the University of Malta. Further training was taken at International Youth Festivals and workshops in Israel, Sicily and Hungary, at Odin Theatre’s Women’s festivals in Demark and INFOMAT in Greece. She was a drama teacher at Stage Coach till 2005.
She joined Du’ Theatre group in 2004, performing, co-producing and coordinating the technical aspects for most of the projects done by the group. The works were performed on all major Maltese stages and in various theatre festivals in Malta, Israel, Hungary, Spain, Sicily, Denmark, Egypt and Macedonia. Being exposed to the production aspect as well as the performative side within the group, Magdalena has mastered various skills ranging from costume making, marketing and production, and the planning of various collaborations and partnerships. She was also nominated for the Best Actress Award at the MADC’s One Act Festival in 2013.
Outside Du’ Theatre, Magdalena collaborates with other major theatre companies and projects. Some of the more recent pieces she performed with include: Moliere’s Don Juan (2013), Clare Azzopardi’s In-Nisa Maltin Jafu Kif ( 2013) and Pretty Lisa ( 2013), Dario Fo's The Burglar's Wife ( 2014), RIMA - an encounter with migrants (2016), Edward Bond's The Price of One ( 2016), Anthony Nielsen’s The Lying kind – Maltese and English versions ( 2016) and Ovid’s Metamorphosis ( 2017).
